Laser Printer: Working principles, Advantage and Disadvantage

Laser Printer: 

It was the principle of dot matrix printer of creating image with dots. However, these images are created on a drum, treated with a magnetically charged ink like tonner and then transfer form drum to paper.

Working principles of Laser Printer: 

A small laser beam is forced off mirror many times per second onto a positively charged drum.
The spots where the laser beam strikes become static electricity charged enabling the toner to stick to this and then print out on paper.

Advantage of Laser Printer:  


  1. Printing is fast for high volumes.
  2. They can handle very large print jobs.
  3. The quality is consistently high.

Disadvantages of Laser Printer:


  1. Laser printers are expensive to buy.
  2. Colour laser printers tend to be expensive to run.
  3. They produce Ozone and volatile organic compounds.
